## Code

```php
add_action( 'wp_head', function () {
    if ( ! is_singular() ) {
        return;
    }
    $post   = get_queried_object();
    $params = array(
        'content_group' => '',
        'post_author'   => get_the_author_meta( 'display_name', $post->post_author ),
        'post_type'     => $post->post_type,
    );
    $cats = get_the_category( $post->ID );
    if ( $cats ) {
        $params['content_group'] = $cats[0]->name;
    } else {
        $params['content_group'] = get_post_type_object( $post->post_type )->labels->singular_name;
    }
    echo "<script>window.dataLayer = window.dataLayer || []; function gtag(){dataLayer.push(arguments);} gtag('set', " . wp_json_encode( $params ) . ");</script>\n";
}, 2 );
```

## Notes

content_group appears in GA4 reports automatically. Register post_author and post_type as event-scoped custom dimensions to report on them.

## How to use it

Install the free WPIDE plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/wpide/), find "Send Post Category and Author to GA4" in its snippet library and add it in one click; or create a new PHP snippet in WPIDE (or any code snippets plugin) and paste the code above. More snippets: https://wpide.com/library/
