## Code

```php
// Longest side in pixels before an uploaded image is scaled down.
$wpide_big_image_threshold = 1920;
add_filter( 'big_image_size_threshold', function () use ( $wpide_big_image_threshold ) {
    return max( 600, (int) $wpide_big_image_threshold );
} );
```

## Notes

The original file is kept on the server; WordPress uses the scaled copy everywhere. To turn scaling off completely use the Disable Big Image Scaling snippet instead.

## How to use it

Install the free WPIDE plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/wpide/), find "Change the Big Image Size Limit" in its snippet library and add it in one click; or create a new PHP snippet in WPIDE (or any code snippets plugin) and paste the code above. More snippets: https://wpide.com/library/
