Log New Users In Right After Registering

Signs people in straight after they register through the WordPress registration form and sends them to a welcome page, instead of making them wait for an email.

Don’t have WPIDE yet? Install it on your site

Code

$wpide_welcome_url = '/welcome/';

add_action( 'register_new_user', function ( $user_id ) use ( $wpide_welcome_url ) {
    if ( is_admin() || wp_doing_ajax() || ( defined( 'REST_REQUEST' ) && REST_REQUEST ) || is_user_logged_in() ) {
        return;
    }

    wp_set_current_user( $user_id );
    wp_set_auth_cookie( $user_id, false, is_ssl() );

    add_filter( 'registration_redirect', function () use ( $wpide_welcome_url ) {
        return home_url( $wpide_welcome_url );
    }, 99 );
}, 99 );

Notes

Change the welcome URL at the top, and only use this when users choose their own password at registration, because the emailed set-password link still arrives.
