Donor Comment Length Limit for GiveWP

Limits the optional donor comment on GiveWP forms to a sensible length and strips links from it, so donor walls do not fill up with spam.

Code

$wpide_max_chars = 280; // Maximum comment length.

add_action( 'give_checkout_error_checks', function ( $valid_data, $data ) use ( $wpide_max_chars ) {
    $comment = isset( $data['give_comment'] ) ? (string) $data['give_comment'] : '';

    if ( '' === $comment || ! function_exists( 'give_set_error' ) ) {
        return;
    }

    if ( mb_strlen( $comment ) > $wpide_max_chars ) {
        give_set_error( 'wpide_comment_length', sprintf( __( 'Please keep your comment under %d characters.' ), $wpide_max_chars ) );
    }

    if ( preg_match( '#https?://|www\.#i', $comment ) ) {
        give_set_error( 'wpide_comment_links', __( 'Links are not allowed in donation comments.' ) );
    }
}, 10, 2 );

Notes

Change $wpide_max_chars. Only affects forms with the donor comment field enabled.
