English Dashboard for Administrators Only

Keeps the dashboard in English for administrators while the site and everyone else's dashboard stay in the site language, handy for developers supporting non-English sites.

Code

$wpide_locale = 'en_US'; // Admin language for administrators.

add_filter( 'determine_locale', function ( $locale ) use ( $wpide_locale ) {
    if ( ! is_admin() || ! is_user_logged_in() || ! current_user_can( 'manage_options' ) ) {
        return $locale;
    }

    $own = get_user_meta( get_current_user_id(), 'locale', true );

    return $own ? $own : $wpide_locale;
} );

Notes

A language chosen in the administrator's own profile still wins. Change $wpide_locale to use another admin language.
